Cold Stone Creamery Frozen Yogurt Creations

Tonight I took my kids and a couple of their cousins to Cold Stone Creamery to taste their new Frozen Yogurt Creations.

The new frozen yogurt Creations include Strawberry Crumble, Chocolate Banana Indulgence and Berries Upon Berries. The frozen yogurt shakes include Shake Them Berries and Powered by Chocolate. Sounds good, right?? The kids were tempted by the great variety of mix-ins that Cold Stone offered and tried the yogurt with their own mix-ins. There are many ice cream flavors available and chocolate, vanilla and berry yogurts. We tried all the yogurt flavors with some interesting mix-ins. The biggest hits seemed to be the plain chocolate yogurt, the berry yogurt with sprinkles and finally the vanilla yogurt with Reese's peanut butter cups, chocolate chips and gummy bears (yikes!). Being a chocoholic, the Powered by Chocolate shake would probably be my first choice (or maybe a tie with the Chocolate Banana Indulgence)! Their yogurt has a good rich flavor but the texture was not quite as creamy as ice cream.

The serving sizes were very generous and a few in our group couldn't finish. We had the "Like It" and "Love It" (small and medium) sizes. The kids felt that the mix-ins were a bit on the skimpy side, however. I think that because Cold Stone is highlighting their rich ice cream and frozen yogurt, the mix-ins are not meant to steal the show.

We visited the Rosemont store and found the service to be very quick with plenty of seating. When we tried to get nutrition information regarding the new Frozen Yogurt, the staff told us they had nothing available and we could check their website. If you are going for frozen yogurt in order to save some calories/fat, it would be nice to be able to see how many calories you are consuming before you order! There were many signs throughout the store stating that the Frozen Yogurt starts at 34 calories per ounce (no idea how that translated to our Creations, but it has to be much less than ice cream).

All in all, the new Frozen Yogurt Creations were a hit with about 50% of our group. I think choosing yogurt over ice cream comes down to personal taste. You would assume that adults would choose yogurt over ice cream simply for the calorie savings, but two of my kids really loved the taste! The idea of being able to customize your ice cream with so many different mix-ins will definitely make everyone happy!

Cold Stone Creamery is a great place to try out as our spring weather starts to hit. If you are looking for other great dining options to share with your family, you can always check out the Chicago Family Dining guide on the Kidwinks site!
